Topic: SM64 Continental Competition

This is gonna be a non-tas competition between continents for sm64 players.

There will be three teams

Team 1-> America ( includes North, South and Central America)
Team 2-> Europe ( this will include europe+africa+oceania due to the lack of players in these last continents )
Team 3-> Asia ( although there are few countries playing sm64 in Asia, Japan has a large ammount of skilled players and makes up for the rest )

Rules:

- Consoles allowed ( the player must show the console they own in some way. EG:  showing the wii pause menu in case of VC users/ recording the TV or joystick.  This is just to be sure the video isn't a TAS.
- Emulators allowed, besides the ones with re recording and slowdowns ( timer code is a must and it's written bellow )

81249688 A02D
8124968A B25E
8124DC7C A1A0
8124DC7E 00EE
8024B197 0040

- No cheating or TAS or anything considered unfair by everyone.
-Your links must be posted on the forum before the deadline shown on each main post showing the results of the
current task or it will not count. An exception is if I see an entry on YouTube (named after the competition), then I will count it in.
- Only one submission will be valid per person. And submissions from different people must be posted in different youtube accounts.
- You may post your vid on any site as long as it is watchable online and the link is posted in this thread.
- Different team's SHOULD not help each other in the making of an entry.
- No repetition of tasks and nothing too similar to a previous task.
- New rule -> PAL version is only allowed on consoles ( n64 or vc ) The timing will be converted to NTSC ( times 5/6)  and multiplied by 105% to make up for the easier difficulty.

Scoring:

Each person may submit as many times as they want. You should post the time obtained on the task, the video link and then indicate what continent you're playing for.

There will be a total of 6 entries, the top 2 entries per continent will be valid.

1st time gets 5 points
2nd time gets 4 points
3rd time gets 3 points
4th time gets 2 points
5th time gets 1 point
6th time gets 0 points

If the same team gets the 1st and 2nd time it will receive a total score of 9 points.
Decimals will be counted.
In case of draw, the place  will be shared, if two people draw at first, they're both first and the next is third . This rule does not consider players from the same continent. If the two submissions from the same team get the exact same time one of them will go down by 0"1.

EG: Team X's submissions are timed as 20"6 and 19"7
Team Y's submissions are timed as 20"3 and 19"7
Team Z's submissions are timed as 19"9 and 19"9

1st - 19"7 and 19"7      5 points
3rd - 19"9                     3 points
4th - 19"9+0"1=20"0    2 points
5th- 20"3                      1 point
6th- 20"6                      0 points

X scores 5+0 = 5 points
Y scores 5+1  = 6 points
Z scores  3+2 = 5 points

Tasks:

There will be a total of 10 tasks per round. The winner of each round will have a video posted on youtube with a compilation of the 10 best entries of that continent as well as a compliment to each player in the video and also in sm64.org's frontpage.

The tasks will be decided by one representantive of each team. Anybody can be the representantive as long as everybody in the team agrees.

The deadline will be at 6 P.M.  [18:00] (London time) one week after the previous task ended. The next task has to be posted in 24 hours after the deadline or else the privilege will pass on to the next team.

The 10th task of each round will be decided by all the three teams togheter either by MSN conversation or forum posts, every team representative has to agree for the task to be valid.

Every task will be timed and will take place in an specific level, with the exception of task 10, which may take place in various levels.

The first Team to post the task will be team 1. The other teams will have a week  to come up with their tasks.

Suggestions:

Discuss with people from your team so you can develop your strategies to favor your continent.

If you're gonna participate post here and try to get people from other continents to participate too.

-> Task 1 will be posted after we've confirmed everyone's participation and agreement. <-

If I get a USB controller soon, I'm a part of team America.

Have fun!

Re: SM64 Continental Competition

Thanks for the effort on setting it up. Everything looks good and the idea is great. Let's go West hemisphere! big_smile

Big support for this. I think it is even funner than the non-TAS Competition in a way because you can work together and support your continent.

Post if you're interested!

I think thinking thoughts is thoughtful.

Re: SM64 Continental Competition

Nice wording.  smile

Re: SM64 Continental Competition

One flaw: "representant" should be "representative". also, how would we keep other teams from seeing our vids once we upload them? private upload? that would make it frustrating to show to your own members as well. Then again, i haven't uploaded a private video in.......at least a year and a half, so i don't really remember how it works. Anyways, count me in for Team Canada. er, Team Conor. Fuck, i mean Team 1.

^Bad joke is bad.

EDIT: Speaking of the representative, does it have to be the same person every time your team is up? Or does it just have to be one person each week?

Well if you do the private upload, you can pick up to 25 people who can see it using a custom link. And personally, I think it should be the same person all the time. Someone should elect a person on their team to be the "speaker", like giving the news and getting updated on their team (who submitted, saying task ideas, giving general info etc.). smile

The competition is focused on non-tas skills,  therefore you don't need to hide your videos.

Speaking of the representative, does it have to be the same person every time your team is up? Or does it just have to be one person each week?

One person each week.

Oh, i get what you mean, now. For some reason i thought you meant that strats were distributed around the team and recommending we didn't give them to the other teams as well. That makes much more sense now.

Re: SM64 Continental Competition

I'm in and a half. Let's use our igloo's wisely, eh Canada?

How to not be an idiot here.

Re: SM64 Continental Competition

Well, it seems team 1 is ready. I think we've got competitors for team 2, as well? let's hope honey, coin, and mokkori are interested, too. EDIT: and hanoji. i knew i was forgetting one of them.
Shit, i hope we get enough competitor's for the other teams or Canada might have to break off and rape everyone on its own.
So what do we do if a team doesn't meet the deadline for submitting a task? is the date for completion extended to a week from when a task is finally submitted?

Re: SM64 Continental Competition

That team will probably just miss out on earning points...

Re: SM64 Continental Competition

I meant when the team responsible for the task doesn't create one to be done.

The next task has to be posted within 24 hours after the deadline or else the privilege will pass on to the next team.

Yes, but WHAT HAPPENS TO THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMITTING A RUN IN THIS SITUATION?

The results of the previous task will be posted at the right time regardless if the following task has been resolved or not.

Re: SM64 Continental Competition

How poorly can i possibly be wording this? You say that the deadline will always be a week after the previous task ended. Will that change in cases where the task does not get submitted on time?

You mean if the task ends at 9:00, and the results and stuffs is posted on 9:40, if the next task ends a week later on 9:40 and not 9:00? yikes

Re: SM64 Continental Competition

"Rules Update"  -> The same task may not be posted twice.

Please help us if we have missed any aspect that should be counted in as a rule.

Waiting for Asian confirmation and support to start.

Re: SM64 Continental Competition

Alright, so the deadline will always be a week after the previous task regardless of whether it is submitted within the 24 hour time period or if the privilege gets passed on to the next team. Thank you for finally answering my question.

According to Blaze, everywhere on Earth except "North America" it is taught as South America and North America being subcontinents. I.e. it is one continent. But the way I was taught is that there are 7 continents, not 6 (which by the way, I still believe I'm correct...  yikes).

Have fun!

Hi. I am new here and would like to join this competition. I am from europe. What about the fact that PAL is much slower than NTSC? smile Can't wait to get started and my fingers is warmed up because I beat the PAL 16 star WR yesterday  big_smile

Re: SM64 Continental Competition

New rule -> PAL version is only allowed on consoles ( n64 or vc ) The timing will be converted to NTSC ( times 5/6)  and multiplied by 105% to make up for the easier difficulty.

The simplified formula in the end will be this: -----> 7X/8  <-------  in which X represents your PAL time.
